The U.S. Grains Council’s Mexico City office opened in 1982 with the purpose of serving one of the largest U.S. feed grain markets by providing consultations to importers. Eventually, the need of technology transfer for the livestock sector became evident, and USGC/Mexico incorporated full time technicians to support all programs designed to accelerate the transfer.
As the livestock sector matured in Mexico, the office evolved accordingly by incorporating market intelligence programs. Today USGC/Mexico has a mix of market information and technical programs. These programs are supported by consultants who are charged with implementing USGC strategies to promote U.S. coarse grains and co-products.
The Mexico office also works closely on two of the most important issues to U.S. grains trade – ethanol market development and facilitating the implementation of USMCA, which provides duty-free access for all products promoted by the U.S. Grains Council.
