The U.S. Grains Council’s regional office in Panama oversees the Western Hemisphere from Canada to Argentina, with the exception of Mexico. Founded in 2010, this office is instrumental in promoting the full complement of U.S. grains and co-products, including ethanol.
A developing region, there are growth opportunities in the Western Hemisphere for both grains and biofuels.
Colombia was the fourth largest overseas buyer of U.S. corn in 2016/2017; Peru was the fifth; and Guatemala was the eighth. A study of market demand in Colombia in 2030 predicted significant additional demand bolstered by the U.S.-Colombia free trade agreement.
There is also significant potential for increased demand for DDGS and ethanol in Canada and Latin American countries, including among top ethanol buyers Brazil and Canada.
