The Council’s office in Taiwan was established on July 1, 1973. Since then USGC/Taiwan’s technical programs have focused on helping livestock and poultry producers and feed millers use US feed grains effectively and manage their operations efficiently. USGC/Taiwan’s trade servicing efforts are focused on helping potential and current customers gain familiarity with U.S. marketing systems, including grain quality and price.
In addition, the office enhances relationships and agricultural trade between Taiwan and the United States. USGC/Taiwan’s trade policy programs include providing information on regulation and policy related to biotechnology, establishing Maximum Residue Levels (MRLs) of agricultural chemicals, and setting national standards for mycotoxins in grains and feeds. It also works to develop markets for barley foods and corn-based Poly-lactic Acid (PLA), and environmentally friendly eco-materials.
