Follow along with the U.S. corn planting season as the U.S. Grains Council (USGC) posts social media updates from farmer members, including Chairman Darren Armstrong (North Carolina), Secretary-Treasurer Chad Willis (Minnesota) and Past Chairman Terry Vinduska (Kansas).
Armstrong’s corn crop is up and growing in coastal North Carolina, where he farms alongside his father and two brothers. Willis also finished planting his corn last week – right before a rainstorm. Vinduska and his neighbors are off and running in south-central Kansas. All three operations are reporting plenty of moisture in the soil to set the stage for good emergence and early growth for the 2020 corn crop.
The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) has also launched a campaign encouraging farmers to log their updates using the hashtag #Plant2020. These social reports provide a personal perspective to the weekly crop progress reports issued by USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS).
