To promote the importation of U.S. grains and ethanol in China, the U.S. Grains Council (USGC) participated in the fourth annual China International Import Expo (CIIE) in early November. The Council operated two booths at the event, one focused on grains and one focused on ethanol.
As the world’s largest import expo, CIIE allowed the Council’s China office staff to meet with USGC members and to discuss the quality of U.S. grain products and the environmental and health benefits of ethanol with those that stopped by the booths.
China was the top importer of U.S. grains in all forms (GIAF) in the most recent marketing year, purchasing more than 35.2 million metric tons (equal to 1.3 billion bushels). By commodity, China was the top market for U.S. corn, sorghum, pork and pork products, and the fourth-largest market for U.S. beef and beef products and ethanol. Additionally, U.S. ethanol exports to China skyrocketed to over 131.7 million gallons (46.7 million bushels).
