Heidi Bringenberg was named the new director of the U.S. Grains Council’s (USGC’s) Mexico office on March 16, 2022.

“The Council is celebrating 40 years of in-person presence with our office in Mexico City this year. I am honored to be a part of this milestone as I enter my new role as director,” said Bringenberg. “The Council’s ties with the Mexican animal feed and livestock industry run very deep as U.S. grain producers and Mexican customers have grown to be more than just business partners, but friends across the border.

“Mexico is an important market for the Council’s products: U.S. corn, sorghum, barley, co-products and ethanol. Although already one of our top markets, the Council has a lot of work to do here. In market development and on the policy front, we face a critical year for ethanol to secure regulatory approval and also to expand existing demand for our coarse grain products.”

Bringenberg served as the assistant director for six years, working closely with the country director to plan, coordinate and execute the Council’s programs in Mexico, including, but not limited to, marketing, trade servicing and government relations programs.

“During my career in Mexico, I have witnessed and celebrated U.S.-Mexico-Canada Agreement negotiations and ratification, which determines a direction for more balanced markets and fairer trade among the three countries,” Bringenberg said. “However, this agreement is only as strong as we allow it to be and how close we adhere to its frameworks. We have a lot of work to do with the agreement’s partners to adhere to the biotechnology provisions of this agreement that ensure farmer access to the technologies which keep U.S. coarse grains competitive and Mexico’s feed and livestock industry growing on average three to four percent year-over-year. I am confident in the strength of this industry and the strength of the U.S. trading relationship with Mexico to continue the business that keeps affordable and nutritious food on tables around the globe.”

In his announcement, USGC President and CEO Ryan LeGrand highlighted Bringenberg’s qualifications and her dedication to the Mexico market.

“I am confident in Heidi’s ability to take on the responsibilities of director in one of the largest markets for the commodities the Council represents. Not only does she have extensive knowledge of and experience with developing and executing the Council’s market development strategy, but she also has a strong understanding of both the needs and opportunities for feed grains and ethanol in the market,” LeGrand said.

Bringenberg holds a bachelor’s degree in international affairs and minor in Spanish from the George Washington University.

Please join the Council in congratulating Heidi on her new role!
