Taiwan Officials Sign Letter of Intent To Purchase U.S. Feed Grains

A five-member Nebraska trade delegation visited Taiwan during August 2016. The team was composed of members of the Nebraska Department of Agriculture, the Nebraska Farm Bureau, the Nebraska Wheat Board and the Nebraska Beef Council

This delegation met the representatives of the Taiwan Flour Mills Association (TFMA), the Taiwan Feed Industry Association (TFIA) and the Taiwan Vegetable Oil Manufacturers’ Association (TVOMA) and signed letters of intent to purchase U.S. feed grains with them.

The TFIA agreed to purchase a total of 500 – 600,000 metric tons of Nebraska corn, valued at $100-120 million, and 70,000 metric tons of Nebraska distiller’s dried grains with solubes (DDGS), valued at $14 million, during 2017 and 2018. This equates to $114 -134 million in total intended sales.

The TVOMA agreed to purchase a total of 210 – 236,000 metric tons of Nebraska soybeans, valued at $101-113 million, during 2017 and 2018.

TFMA agreed to purchase a total of 550 – 650,000 metric tons of Nebraska hard red winter wheat, valued at $115 -135 million, during 2017 and 2018.

The director of the U.S. Grains Council’s Taiwan office, Clover Chang, helped coordinate the signing of these letters of intent as part of the office’s ongoing work to connect U.S. sellers and Taiwanese buyers, supported by the Market Access Program (MAP) and the Foreign Market Development (FMD) program.
