As growing season progresses, U.S. Grains Council (USGC) leaders and growers have shared updates on their crops.
In the July 3 crop progress report released by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), 51 percent of the corn in the top 18 producing states were listed as being in good to excellent condition.

In early June, Gail Lierer, USGC at-large director and producer in Ohio, shared that her corn crop was struggling, but the no-till system implemented on her farm was helping, prior to rain coming through. Lierer shared this photo taken later in June, adding, “what a difference very little rain makes.”
Jennie Schmidt, USGC Middle East/Africa/South Asia Advisory Team (A-Team) leader shared an update from her farm in Maryland. The spring brought little rain and cooler temperatures in Schmidt’s area, but the field pictured seems to be doing well under the circumstances. The Council continues to track crop progress throughout the year. These farmer reports add a personal perspective to the weekly crop progress reports issued by USDA.
