Miller Recognized For 25 Years As USGC Delegate

The U.S. Grains Council (USGC) recognized Victor Miller for his 25 years of service to the organization at its 20th International Marketing Conference and 63rd Annual Membership Meeting in Savannah, GA this week. Miller is a farmer from Fayette County, Iowa, who previously served as the president of the Iowa Corn Growers’ Association (ICGA) and was USGC Chairman in 2007.

Miller’s involvement with the Iowa Corn Promotion Board (ICPB) led him to become a representative to the Council and he said a trip to South America in 1996 helped him become fully aware of the Council’s work and the importance of exports to U.S. agriculture.

“Meeting people, seeing how the world operated and crafting agreements to get products in and out, those were the big things I saw and learned,” Miller said. “Suddenly you’re on the world stage and you have to take into consideration everyone’s concerns, so that was a huge eye-opening experience.”

Miller tries to share the knowledge he gained from his many years with the ICGA, ICPB and the Council with other farmers who may not know about the global agricultural export market. He stresses to people that the Council’s mission of improving lives applies to domestic producers as well as overseas buyers so that everyone sees greater benefits from global trade.

“You try to tee things up when you’re talking to people by saying that we’re looking for fair trade and explaining that it’s not just corn, sorghum and barley that are being exported,” Miller said. It’s distiller’s dried grains with solubles (DDGS), it’s ethanol, it’s a whole host of co-products. If you show them the co-products we’re exporting, that seems to resonate with people.”

Outside of his work with the Council, Miller enjoys having his grandson, who has a degree in engineering, visit his farm during the spring and fall to discuss farming practices and techniques.

Please join the Council in recognizing Victor for his 25 years of service!
