Larry Groce Honored with Lifetime Achievement Award

With more than 40 years of service dedicated to American agriculture, Illinois native Larry Groce has seen a lot of changes – but he’s never just been a bystander. He’s worn many hats, several of them in leadership roles, in his work to fulfill the ever-evolving U.S. Grains Council mission of “developing markets, enabling trade, improving lives.”
Last week, the Council recognized Groce’s long-time commitment and service with its highest honor, the prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award.
Groce served as USGC Chairman in 1994, an era marked by rapid change: the shift in U.S. coarse grains export markets from Europe to Asia, the increased participation of producer organizations in the Council, the enactment of the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) and the emergence of an integrated North American market.
The theme for the Council then, as it is now, was adaptation to help position U.S. producers and agribusinesses to profit from rapidly changing market opportunities. The Council has met these challenges before, and the legacy of leaders like Larry Groce is reflected in the reach and effectiveness of USGC programs around the world today.
