Last week in Changsha, Hunan, China, the U.S. Grains Council (USGC) took part in the 11th Leman China Swine Conference – the world’s largest and most influential swine industry event.
The show, held in China since 2012, welcomed nearly 8,000 people and offered science-driven solutions to the challenges facing the global swine industry.
While American organizations have always been involved in the event, this year was different in that the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) organized the “American Pavilion,” a designated area for American organizations that work closely with the global swine industry. The Council, along with the U.S. Soybean Export Council (USSEC) and the National Society of Breeding Swine Rankings (NSR), was invited to operate a booth in the special section.
“We continue to witness positive growth in China’s swine and livestock feed industries. Now more than ever, it is imperative we participate in these expos to ensure we stay engaged with the top swine-producing enterprises in the world,” said Manuel Sanchez, USGC director in China.
During the show, the Council’s China-based staff welcomed attendees, offered samples of the USGC-represented commodities and provided educational print materials to event participants. Those who stopped by learned more about the Council’s work specifically in China, but also how the organization’s mission can be seen throughout the work done globally.
“Attending this conference provided valuable insights into the current and future state of the swine industry in China, which will help us stay up to date with the latest trends and developments in the swine sector and to build relationships with other industry professionals,” said Wennie Liu, USGC program manager in China.
“It was an excellent opportunity to network with industry professionals, including feed manufacturers and producers, and to learn about the latest trends and technologies in swine nutrition and feed production. We received a lot of positive visits at our booth, including from large-scale swine producers, and they showed a great interest in U.S. feed ingredients.”
Trade shows and conferences like the Leman Swine Conference allow Council staff to meet face-to-face with potential customers and global partners.
