Brigid Flay joined the U.S. Grains Council (USGC) on Nov. 1 as the global strategies coordinator in the organization’s Washington D.C., headquarters.
In this role, Flay will support the Council’s global strategies, trade policy and biotechnology departments in their market engagement and support the Council’s overseas offices.
Prior to joining the Council, Flay worked for the North American Export Grain Association (NAEGA) as an international trade intern. In this capacity, she assisted in the preparation of NAEGA’s annual Unified Export Strategy, the document organizations like the Council that participate in the Market Access Program (MAP) and the Foreign Market Development (FMD) program must construct each year. She also researched agricultural policy and trade environments, supported association advocacy efforts with World Trade Organization (WTO) negotiations and worked closely on policy issues with the International Grain Trade Coalition (IGTC).
“Brigid has already been exposed to U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) programs through her work with NAEGA,” said Kurt Shultz, USGC senior director of global strategies. “We are excited she brings this experience as she joins the Council.”
Flay earned a bachelor’s degree in economics and philosophy from Mount St. Mary’s University and a master’s degree in international trade and economic diplomacy from the Middlebury Institute of International Studies at Monterey.
Please join the Council in welcoming Brigid!
