Taiwan Feed Industry Purchases Corn And DDGS After Export Exchange 2018

Using Market Access (MAP) funds, the U.S. Grains Council (USGC) hosted a six-member team of Taiwan feed industry buyers to North Dakota, South Dakota and Minnesota during Export Exchange in October 2018. The itinerary included visits to corn farms, hog farms, ethanol plants, grain elevators, feed mills, transloading facilities and attending the main Export Exchange conference in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

The main purpose of the program was to help international customers better understanding the production, quality and applications of U.S. grains and dried distiller’s grains with solubles (DDGS), and to educate them on how to use more U.S. products in their feeding systems.

Export Exchange 2018 offered overseas attendees a unique opportunity to meet and build relationships with domestic suppliers of corn, DDGS, sorghum, barley and other commodities. More than 200 international buyers and end-users of coarse grains and co-products from more than 35 countries along with about 300 U.S. industry participants attended the event.

Members of the Taiwanese buyers team negotiated with suppliers to purchase 65,000 metric tons of corn and 9,200 tons of DDGS, with a combined export value of $13.9 million. The Council invested $60,000 of MAP funds in support of this marketing program, generating a total return on investment (ROI) of $232 for every $1 MAP invested.
