Meet Your Neighbor!

The U.S. and Canada enjoy not only the world’s longest undefended border, but the world’s most valuable bilateral trading relationship as well. The over-arching regulatory, public policy and trade interests of Canada’s grains, oilseed and special crops value chain will broaden the agenda of the U.S. Grains Council upcoming annual meeting. Canada Grains Council President Richard Phillips will discuss Canada ag policy, including the dissolution of the Canadian Wheat Board, with attendees of the USGC’s 53rd Annual Board of Delegates Meeting in Ottawa, Ontario, July 29-31, 2013.

“The dissolution of the Canadian Wheat Board created tremendous opportunity for increased trade between the United States and Canada,” said Don Fast, USGC chairman. “USGC attendees will enjoy the chance to hear from one of Canada’s experts about the new Canadian Wheat Board structure and how it has changed the Canadian producers marketing tactics and opportunities.”

A third generation seed grower from Tisdale Saskatchewan, Phillips brings many years of experience in the grain sector having served as executive director of the Grain Growers of Canada for more than six years. Phillips also has held various positions with the Canadian Agri-Food Trade Alliance, United Grain Growers, Canola Council of Canada, and the Canada Grains Council. Phillips also brings non-profit and political experience, having worked at the Canadian Foodgrains Bank as well as with Cabinet Ministers and opposition critics in the Saskatchewan legislature and the House of Commons.
