This week’s U.S. Grains Council (USGC) Chart of Note illustrates the recent upswing in sales of U.S. corn to countries around the globe. This is good news after months of struggling corn exports due to a strong U.S. dollar and larger-than-expected global corn supplies.
Mexico remains the top market for U.S. corn this marketing year, with Japan – the traditional top market – catching up with sales of 256,700 metric tons (10.1 million bushels) of U.S. corn this week.
Colombia is the third largest buyer, and Korea, with sales of more than 123,200 tons (4.9 million bushels) of U.S. corn this week, comes in as fourth.
The Council will continue building on this momentum throughout the summer with local outreach, one-on-one consultations and updates on the new crop’s progress. The organization is also planning to host approximately 30 trade teams of buyers and other overseas stakeholders this summer and fall, including a team of representatives from the Korean groups that made the purchases this week.
