Video: USGC Program in Southern Mexico Sees Success

The U.S. Grains Council’s (USGC’s) promotion of U.S. distiller’s dried grains with solubles (DDGS) to the underserved region of Southern Mexico has reached a milestone with U.S. DDGS beginning to flow to the region on a commercial scale.

“We have been working to promote U.S. DDGS in Southern Mexico for several years through presentations, targeted one-on-one meetings and DDGS feeding trials, said USGC Consultant Dr. Eduardo Christensen. “Now we are working in conjunction with important feed distribution companies in the area to commercialize U.S. DDGS sales throughout the area.

While Mexico is the second largest market for U.S. DDGS in the first half of 2015 with more than 750,000 metric tons imported, its Southern region has untapped potential. The Council has worked to gain a foothold in this market for U.S. DDGS through end-user education, DDGS promotion and trade servicing efforts.

“We are introducing U.S. DDGS to the entire value chain in Southern Mexico,â€ said USGC Manager of Global Trade Alvaro Cordero. “This has generated interest in the product and ultimately culminated in the sales of U.S. DDGS as a supplement to pasture grazing that we saw while visiting the feed company Campi, which is part of the Bachoco group, last week.â€

The Council will continue its promotion of U.S. DDGS in their market through USGC’s traditional boots-on-the-ground efforts, with aims of growing commercial sized purchases.
