Competitor Corn Exports

This chart shows the growth of non-U.S. corn exports over the past decade. While China’s exports disappeared by 2007, others’ exports have grown. Argentina, Brazil and Ukraine account for 22 million metric tons (866 million bushels) of export growth over the decade.

In addition, world prices stimulated production and exports from a number ofsmaller players that account for an additional 8 million tons (315 million bushels) of export growth. In all, current exporters increased their total sales by 30 million tons (1.2 billion bushels), while total world imports increased only 20 million tons (787 million bushels). These surging competitor exports have eroded U.S. market share in recent years.
