Video: Tanzania Training Program Success Story: Godwin Mrema

One Tanzania poultry farmer, Godwin Mrema, has especially benefited from the one-on-one trainings he received from the U.S. Grains Council’s (USGC’s) programs in that country, taking a calculated risk to change his feed formulations in the hope of increased productivity and profit.

The USGC program launched in early 2014 and is funded by a U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Food for Progress grant. It aims to improve commercial poultry production in order to provide a quality protein source for the growing middle class in the region. The Council will do this by working in three key areas: association building, feed quality testing and training programs. These training programs will continue this year with a seminar being held twice a month.

The Council is also rolling out another training program in South Africa, where Heiko Koster, USGC South Africa consultant, will host poultry producers at his layer farm to learn advanced poultry production practices.
