Tanzania Food for Progress Program Project Moves Forward with Local MOUs Signed

Following a year of building trust and support with the Tanzanian Feed Manufacturers Association (TAFMA) and the Tanzanian Poultry Breeders Association (TPBA), the associations and the U.S. Grains Council (USGC) recently signed memorandums of understanding (MOUs) outlining their ongoing work together.

The Council launched its Tanzania Food for Progress initiative last spring, a planned four-year effort to improve broiler and layer production and help feed the country’s growing middle class.

“The goal of this project is to enhance the poultry industry in this country,” said Wallie Hardie, a North Dakota farmer who has visited Tanzania to see how the project is progressing. “All those chickens will need corn and soy, so we can really develop the grains sector in this country.

“After spending a week here, I feel like we are on the right track. We’ve got the right people at the right place at the right time. Tanzania is really ready to break out in expanding their poultry industry and making it really special.”
