Porciello Set to Discuss Effective Biotech Communication at USGC Summer Meeting

How to talk about science as a driver for improved food security and standards of living will be a key topic during Tuesday’s general session at the upcoming U.S. Grains Council (USGC) 55th Annual Board of Delegates Meeting.

Jaron Porciello, a member of Cornell University’s Alliance for Science, will speak to USGC delegates gathered for the meeting, scheduled for Montreal, Canada, from July 27 to 29.

The Alliance is focused on increasing access to ag innovation through improved communication and collaboration. Porciello’s work as a member of the group includes bringing information on agricultural science and biotechnology to developing countries; creating partnerships to reduce poverty and increase agricultural stability; providing information to producers and end-users about available technology; and reviving the agricultural biotechnology conversation.

“Jaron brings an interesting perspective to the ongoing discussion of bridging the gap between those of us who use biotechnology in our work and the general public, said Ron Gray, USGC chairman.

As a researcher for Cornell University, Porciello explores methods to unify the process of sharing data and information technology. Porciello also focuses on the influence of information policy practices on access to information.

“The need to strategically engage the world in dialogue about biotechnology is essential to creating comfortable atmospheres socially and politically for new trait approvals in many countries,â€ Gray said. “This will be a valuable presentation for USGC leaders and our members.”
