Watching Corn Grow: Check Out CornCamIowa.com

Fifteen years ago, a second generation Iowa farmer Jim Greif and Iowa Farmer Today launched a website that livestreamed the crop season for Greif’s corn. The site generated more than a million hits worldwide. This year, Greif decided to bring the corn cam website back featuring a test plot that includes genetically modified (GM) corn varieties.

Greif will use the website as a tool to tell his story of growing this year’s corn crop. As the district six director for the Iowa Corn Growers Association, he is also taking the story to foreign stakeholders in person by participating next week in the U.S. Grains Council’s (USGC’s) mission to Japan and Korea. He plans to encourage end-users and buyers he meets to visit his website to increase transparency with these key contacts.

The livestreaming website is a unique opportunity for stakeholders and potential buyers to see the 2015 corn crop being grown.

The Corn Cam was featured this week on the Council’s Facebook page tracking the crop’s development, called Growing the 2015 U.S. Corn Crop. This page is a channel for direct communication between farmers and overseas customers about the condition and quality of the 2015 U.S. corn crop.
