David Schuler started his summer internship at the U.S. Grains Council (USGC) office in Washington, D.C., on Tuesday May 30. <\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI am excited to have the opportunity to work with USGC,\u201d he said. \u201cI have gained a passion for involving myself in public service and agriculture, and I look forward to working with an organization that promotes agricultural commodities and family farms.\u201d <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The Nebraska Corn Board and Nebraska Corn Growers Association sponsors this annual summer internship, which allows college students to gain professional experience working in the agricultural sector. <\/span><\/p>\n

In his role, Schuler will assist the Council\u2019s Global Programs department, including with a Japanese bioethanol media education team that will travel to both Washington, D.C., and Nebraska. <\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cDavid has good agricultural leadership skills as a past Nebraska FFA state vice president as well as coming from a family farming operation,\u201d said Cary Sifferath, USGC senior director of global programs. \u201cWe will put David to work on helping with programming for many of our international teams coming to the United States this summer.\u201d <\/span><\/p>\n

Schuler is pursuing a bachelor\u2019s degree in animal science at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, specializing in production management. He expects to graduate in May 2018. In addition to assisting with his family\u2019s row crop and cow-calf seedstock operation in Nebraska, he serves as a UNL animal science department ambassador. <\/span><\/p>\n
