{"id":3208,"date":"2014-06-19T13:37:32","date_gmt":"2014-06-19T13:37:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/grains.org\/ltamex\/kessler-named-usgc-director-of-communications\/"},"modified":"2014-06-19T13:37:32","modified_gmt":"2014-06-19T13:37:32","slug":"kessler-named-usgc-director-of-communications","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/grains.org\/ltamex\/kessler-named-usgc-director-of-communications\/","title":{"rendered":"Kessler Named USGC Director of Communications"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The U.S. Grains Council is pleased to announce the hire of Melissa George Kessler as the USGC director of communications at the Washington, D.C., headquarters.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMelissa has a strong communications background and has worked extensively with agricultural media,\u201d said USGC President and CEO Tom Sleight. \u201cShe will bring a new perspective to the job and help strengthen our communications efforts.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>As director of communications, Kessler will design and execute aggressive communications strategies to raise the profile of USGC experts, expertise and its mission. She will develop and lead the Council\u2019s overall communications initiatives and public relations efforts, including internal and external communication strategies. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cMelissa is excited about broadening her international perspective,\u201d Sleight said,\u201d and I am very pleased to have her join the Council in a month, just in time for our <a href=\"http:\/\/www.grains.org\/news-and-events\/events\/54th-annual-board-delegates-meeting\">Annual Board of Delegates Meeting in Omaha.\u201d <\/a><\/p>\n<p>Kessler is currently a consultant focusing primarily on communications and organizational effectiveness. Previously, she had served for seven years as the National Association of Wheat Growers\u2019 director of communications. In that position Kessler managed the association\u2019s media relations, created and maintained NAWG\u2019s digital presence, actively participated in the association\u2019s policy-setting process and more. <\/p>\n<p>She is replacing <a href=\"http:\/\/www.grains.org\/news\/20140410\/carrow-named-regional-director-western-hemisphere\">Marri Carrow who recently was promoted<\/a> to regional director of the Western Hemisphere based in Panama.<\/p>\n<p>Kessler holds a bachelor\u2019s degree from the University of Oklahoma in political science and master\u2019s degree in organization development from American University.
