Video: USGC Japan Promotes U.S. Corn To Wagyu Producers On Southern Island

The U.S. Grains Council’s (USGC’s) Director in Japan Tommy Hamamoto visited Wagyu cattle producers on Japan’s southern island of Ishigaki earlier this month to promote the use of U.S. corn in feed rations.

“Face-to-face meetings with producers are essential and allow us to promote U.S. corn as a source of energy to supplement forage-based diets in Wagyu cattle,” Hamamoto said. “In their final growth stages, these cattle can consume more than 20 pounds of dry matter, which includes corn, sorghum, barley and hay, daily.”

These visits are critical to helping Ishigaki livestock producers learn more about the quality of U.S. corn, which is an important part of their high-quality final product, known for high marbling scores.
