Speaker on St. Lawrence Seaway Set for Montreal Meeting

Allister Paterson, president for Canada Steamship Lines, will bring more than 20 years of experience in the transportation industry to his presentation on the St. Lawrence Seaway’s role in global grain trade at the U.S. Grains Council’s (USGC’s) 55th Annual Board of Delegates Meeting, scheduled for July 27 – 29 in Montreal, Canada.

“Learning more about this trade route will create a new global awareness among the meeting attendees, which can only help strengthen our connection with our northern neighbor, said USGC Chairman Ron Gray, whose family farms in Illinois.

Meeting attendees will receive an in-depth look into new developments along the Seaway that connects the Great Lakes of New York with the eastern boundary of Quebec and Ontario, Canada, as wel as its impact on Canada’s grain exports.

Paterson’s service to the Canada Steamship Lines, which is the world’s largest owner and operator of self-unloading vessels, will inform his perspective on the complicated but close working relationship between the United States and Canada. Previous to CSL, Paterson worked as senior vice president for Finnair’s Commercial Division and as president/CEO of Seaway Marine Transport.

“Allister brings an important and unique perspective to the realm of global trade,â€ Gray said. “Council members will leave with a new perspective on the current and future outlook of the global grain trade.â€
