As GPS and other new information technologies proliferate in farming, Dr. Bob Sutor will bring his insights on “Analytics, Big Data, Mobile, Cloud: All of It, All at Once” to keynote the U.S. Grains Council’s 11th International Marketing Conference and 54th Annual Membership Meeting, Feb. 10-12 in Long Beach, Calif.
Sutor, currently vice president for business analytics and mathematical sciences at IBM Research, will explore ways to make sense of massive data sets, the use of mobile devices to generate and consume data, and the role of the Cloud as a server application platform. Drawing on IBM Research’s recent work, he will also offer predictions about developments to expect in coming years, emphasizing especially developments in agriculture.
“Sutor is a ‘must see’ speaker with an international reputation as a thought leader in emerging technologies,” said USGC President and CEO Tom Sleight. “In today’s world we have an abundance of information. The challenge is how to manage it. Nowhere is that more true than in U.S. agriculture, where we are quick to adopt the new technologies that make us more competitive.”
Sutor is known for his exceptional ability to help others understand deeply technical topics and how they will drive innovation, Sleight noted. His previous experience includes a stint heading IBM Corporation’s Mobile Enterprise and WebSphere Foundation and a term as vice president for IBM Software’s Open Systems and Linux.
“Sutor is known for his ability to transform his company,” Sleight said. “In Long Beach, I expect he will also transform our thinking.”
