ICYMI: U.S. Grains Council Applauds Chinese Approval of MIR 162

The U.S. Grains Council (USGC) applauded the decision by the Chinese government to finalize approval of the MIR 162 biotech corn trait, verified by Syngenta on Dec. 22, 2014.

MIR 162 has been approved in 19 countries since 2011 and is a valuable tool for U.S. farmers who are working to address pest problems and increase yields.

The Council views China’s decision as a positive but incomplete step towards the objective of normalizing agriculture trade with China.

The Council will continue to encourage U.S. and Chinese government officials to work together to create a synchronous and predictable approval process that will facilitate market access and promote trade to increase global food security.
