Traveling more than 1 million miles across the globe, Michael T. Callahan spent more than 34 years with one mission in mind: developing and defending export markets for U.S. coarse grains and co-products in Asia. Callahan began working for the U.S. Grains Council in 1978 as the regional director of Southeast Asia in Singapore. In 1981, Mike was brought back to Washington, D.C. as international program director for Asia and Latin America. For a brief period, the region was split and Mike covered Latin America for the Council. In 1983, Mike returned to the Asia region serving as Director of International Operations for Asia from 1983-2012, with the exception of a brief two-year, service again as regional director for Southeast Asia in Kuala Lumpur. In 1993, Callahan moved back to Washington, D.C., where he since served as senior director of international operations for Asia.
Mike was part of tremendous changes in the region from the rise of top U.S. coarse grain markets in Japan, Korea and Taiwan to overseeing Council entry into the emerging markets of Southeast Asia and embryonic giant, China. The Council wishes Mike well in his new endeavors.
