Audio and Video Interviews on Agrisure Vipterra MIR 162 Approval in the EU

USGC Senior Regional Director Cary Sifferath gives his perspective on the MIR-612 approval in the European Union and the potential impact on U.S. coarse grains co-product shipments to the region. “Approval of the event has opened the trade [of U.S. corn gluten feed and distiller’s dried grains with solubles],” said Sifferath. Within a few days of the approval, a Portuguese buyer who attended the Export Exchange conference in Minneapolis last week indicated purchases of corn gluten feed and soybean meal. “We already have news of one sale taking place, just because of the MIR-162 approval.

Jose Romao Leite Braz of Financo Agro Alimentar, a feed miller based in Portugal said, “It was a very important approval. We were waiting for this for many months. I was able to do some corn gluten feed this year, but with lots of restrictions and contract clauses. This [approval] will alleviate some of those problems so I believe we will be able to do some shipments of U.S. corn products to Europe.” Of course, once the regulatory obstacles are cleared away, it still comes down to price.
