2023 ANNUAL REPORT

Sorghum Promotion Ramps Up In Southeast Asia

In September 2023, the U.S. Grains Council (USGC), United Sorghum Checkoff Program (USCP) and Texas Grain Sorghum Producers, conducted an exploratory trade mission to Vietnam focused on creating demand for U.S. sorghum in Vietnamese value-added markets. The delegation met with leaders in the Vietnamese flour milling industry, feed grain space and explored opportunities for sorghum’s inclusion in Southeast Asia’s growing pet food industry.

As a follow-up to the delegation’s marketing efforts in 2023, USGC and USCP have responded to inquires from end-users requesting multiple varieties of U.S. sorghum be submitted for in-house testing across multiple industries. Samples will be shipped to Vietnam’s largest flour millers and feed manufacturers, as well as leaders in the pet food manufacturing industry in early 2024.

The grain sorghum samples collected for dispersal to Vietnamese industry leaders will provide localized data to Vietnamese end-users showcasing the quality and versatility of U.S. sorghum. These market efforts will ideally result in increased U.S. sorghum inclusion in high quality products for both animals and humans.
