Mexico, which represented nearly 80 percent of the total U.S. barley and barley product exports in marketing year (MY) 2022/23, was the only market to import more than 50,000 MT in MY 2022/23.
The relationships formed directly between brewers in Mexico and barley growers in the U.S. have played a large role in making Mexico the number one export partner for U.S. barley and barley products. During 2023, a major Mexican brewer contracted directly with a U.S. exporter, leaving barley growers feeling hopeful for a long-term partnership moving forward.
The remaining top five exports markets for MY2022/23 were Canada, Japan, South Korea and Taiwan.
