Another record year of sales to the country helped total sorghum exports of more than seven million metric tons (MMT) continue into 2021\/22.<\/p>\n<p>After its second-largest export year on record, China held on as the top market for U.S. sorghum for the ninth consecutive year, with exports totaling 6.5 MMT (258 million bushels) in MY 2021\/22, worth $2.3 billion, nearly equal to MY 2020\/21. China accounted for nearly 90 percent of total U.S. sorghum exports in MY 2021\/22.<\/p>\n<p>Mexico was the second-largest market in 2021\/22, purchasing 361,000 MT, or 14.2 million bushels. Rebounding from MY 2020\/21, this was Mexico\u2019s third-largest year on record for U.S. sorghum purchases.<\/p>\n<p>Sudan, the European Union (EU) and Eritrea all experienced a positive marketing year. Sudan, the third-largest market, purchased 138,700 MT, or 5.4 million bushels, up more than 30 percent from MY 2020\/21. Sorghum sales to the fourth-largest market, the EU, totaled over 118,000 MT, or 4.7 million bushels.
