Totaling a record 16.8 million metric tons (MMT), or 662 million bushels, Mexico surpassed China as the top market for U.S. corn in the 2021/2022 marketing year. Worth $5 billion, and up eight percent from MY 2020/2021, Mexico represented 27 percent of total U.S. corn exports in MY 2021/2022.
China was the second-largest market in 2021/22, purchasing 14.7 MMT, or 578 million bushels, worth $3.3 billion.
Japan, Canada and Colombia round out the top five markets for MY 2021/2022. Japan, the third-largest market, purchased 10.1 MMT, or 399 million bushels. Corn sales to the fourth-largest market, Canada, totaled six MMT, or 238 million bushels. Colombia, the fifth-largest market, purchased 4.4 MMT, or 173 million bushels, of U.S. corn in this past marketing year, up 11 percent from MY 2020/21.
