If you didn't think of an auction item to contribute in time for last year's U.S. Grains Council's 53rd Annual Board of Delegates Meeting in Ottawa, rest easy -- the always popular Grains Foundation Auction will be back again at the Council's 54th Annual Board of Delegates Meeting in Omaha, Neb., and donations for auction items are being accepted now.
The U.S. Grains Council is pleased to announce that Ashley Kongs is returning to the Council as manager of ethanol export programs.
Kongs will be responsible for the development and implementation of ethanol export strategies and programs. In this capacity she will work closely with the Council's ethanol members, the Renewable Fuels Association and Growth Energy.
Nearly 90 percent of U.S. corn planted is with biotech varieties... one out of every three U.S. farm acres is planted for export... 31 percent of U.S. gross farm income coming directly from exports. What does that mean for the U.S. producer?
It means that any biotechnology issue that puts trade at risk could impact U.S. producers' bottom line.
The U.S. Grains Council is currently accepting applications for Advisory Teams (A-Teams) through April 30.
The A-Teams provide insight and guidance to the USGC Board of Directors on the direction and activities of the Council. A-Team members serve a two-year term, renewable without limit at the discretion of the Board. Current delegates whose terms expire in 2014 must submit a new application if they wish to continue to serve on an A-Team. Interested USGC delegates not currently serving are encouraged to apply.

YangXiang is a major feed and hog producer based in southern China with the capacity to market some one million hogs a year. The company is pursuing a complete pork supply chain strategy from feed to meat by building mills, farms and packing plants in many provinces in China.

Belete joins the Council as the new IT service support specialist. In this capacity he will be responsible for coordinating the security and maintenance of the Council's computer systems, communications systems and office equipment.
He brings with him 18 years of information technology experience. Most recently, Belete was MIS network technician at New Horizons Computer Learning Center. He holds certifications in Net+, A+ and is a Microsoft certified professional.

Blue Flint Ethanol produces more than 65 million gallons of ethanol per year at its corn-based biorefinery near Underwood, N.D. In addition to ethanol, it produces distiller's dried grains with solubles (DDGS) for use in livestock rations and corn oil for use in biodiesel production. To meet these production goals, Blue Flint Ethanol purchases more than 580,000 million metric tons (23 million bushels) of North Dakota corn annually.
