In commodities, sometimes it's all about momentum. Many commodities right now are feeling like second class citizens following a poor Chinese economic report and aggressive Federal stimulus purchasing of U.S. treasuries, which are channeling investors to U.S. equities. Everything from gold to copper to silver to corn has felt massive fund liquidation. However, one of the hottest commodities right now isn't even traded on any exchange.

Update: In March, the U.S. Grains Council showcased U.S. sorghum at FOODEX Japan 2013, the largest food tradeshow in Asia. More than 71,500 food and restaurant industry professionals were in attendance and were able to sample sorghum products and recieve more information on U.S. grains.

US Planted Acres

This week's U.S. Grains Council Chart of the Week shows projected acres from the U.S. Department of Agriculture's (USDA) Prospective Plantings Report released today. The report projects increases in planted acres for corn, sorghum and wheat, with very small declines in soybean and barley acres.Using USDA's trend yield for corn and assuming 90 percent of planted acres are harvested, this amount of planted acres would produce a 363.8 million metric tons (14.323 billion bushel) corn harvest in 2013.
USGC, NCGA Officers to Visit China, Korea, Japan

The U.S. Grains Council is preparing for its Officers Mission - along with the National Corn Growers Association - to meet with customers in Japan, Korea and China. USGC Chairman Don Fast says this mission is extremely important for U.S. grains because of competition for these markets from other countries - such as Argentina, Brazil, the Ukraine and India. USGC President and CEO Tom Sleight agrees this mission is critical.
