The U.S. Grains Council's strategic outreach to China continues to pay dividends. Last week, the Council had the privilege of hosting a delegation of high-level think tank officials from China on a corn-focused tour across the United States. The trip served as an opportunity for those working on Chinese agricultural development and policy to view U.S. corn and value-added produced systems first hand. The team also was able to assess the impact of the current drought and deepen its appreciation of the productive potential of biotechnology.

The graph shows China imports of corn and the U.S. market share. Growing from almost nothing, China’s corn imports reach 5 million metric tons (197 million bushels) in the marketing year just ending, with almost all imports from the United States.
According to the U.S. Grains Council, China is the second largest corn producer in the world was at one time our biggest competitor in corn exports. However, rapid economic growth, urbanization and consumer demand for improved diets has seen China’s corn demand surge beyond its own productive capacity. For corn imports China has turned almost exclusively to the United States.
USGC North China Crop Tour Shows Good Corn but Poor Wheat Crop

Corn production in North China is projected to be about 3.5 million metric tons (138 million bushels) greater than last year provided weather conditions remain favorable, according to conclusions reached following industry crop tours coordinated by the U.S. Grains Council's office in Beijing.
USGC Pleased China Anti-Dumping Investigation Against US DDGS Terminated

The U.S. Grains Council is pleased that China's Ministry of Commerce announced the anti-dumping investigation against U.S. DDGS exports to China has been terminated. In the announcement, the Ministry of Commerce stated that the applicants in the case withdrew their petition on May 10, 2012, which resulted in the Ministry terminating the investigation in accordance with China's anti-dumping regulations. No anti-dumping tariffs will be imposed.
